  Anokhi now has a small pet. A Golden Perolis. It has strange mismatched rainbow eyes and an unnaturally long tail. The little pet was given to her by Lillian, who found the creature in her shop one day. Hopefully, it will lead Anokhi on the path to recovery.

• Thoughts On Friends

  Ees Khalid: I first met Ees after Hassan's death. He was there for me, even though he did not know me and I was not speaking at the time. Ees has a strong sense of helping others, and bit by bit we grew to be close friends. Hassan's death drove me to near suicide multiple times, but each time Ees pulled me back from that dark hole and would give me hope. I grew to love him, in a way I thought was like I would love a brother. But over time I have realized, we have both realized, that we love each other truly, as a couple. I am so glad to have found happiness with him. I know there could not be a better father-figure for my child.
  
  Belial: Belial is a demon-man, the gravekeeper in Priory. I met with him to discuss what to do with Hassan's body, but I have found myself coming to him on multiple times with no such business in mind. He is my safe person. I may tell him whatever I like, and he offers words of wisdom. He is wise and helpful, and he has done so much for me. He holds me. If I ask him, he will give me a hug and not seem bothered or irritated. I doubt many people think this, but Belial is a kind soul. The closest thing I can get to a father.
  
  Corvin: This is where it all began. The person who prompted me to be myself. To act like a normal, respectable person and not a slave. Though I scarcely see him now, he is still a safe place to me. When things grew terrible, when everything was at it worst, Corvin gave me a place to stay. He gave me a safehouse, he gave me food, he provided for me and asked nothing in return. I feel incredibly indebted to him. He has made me laugh, smile, and feel like a true human being. I will never forget everything he has done for me. And I will strive to repay him back somehow. Even if it is just by learning how to stand and live on my own two feet.
  I worry now though. He has grown distant. He does not respond, and when I come into a room there is not even a greeting. Have I angered him? This issue weighs heavily on my heart. I do not know how to confront it when he refuses to speak with me...
  
  Tyval: Never have I met a man so selfless than he. From the very beginning, Tyval has protected me and treated me like no one else would; like a lady. He calls me that. He calls me his Lady, and he is my Knight. Tyval is the closest I will ever get to having a brother. He has rescued me from the worst of enemies, saved me from myself when guilt would drive me to near insanity. He listens and accepts me for who I am. My only fear is that one day I will drive him away...
  
  Emil: The cutest child I have ever seen, though the little boy is far from normal. He stands on two hooved, furry feet and has the cutest pair of antlers in the world. No matter how mischevious the little child is, he always makes me smile when I see him. When I am with Emil, I feel light-hearted and like a child myself! I have not seen nor heard from him ever since the attack on Helmstrass. I dearly hope he has gotten to safety.
  
  Veratin: I have only met him once. And the only reason I wish to perhaps see him again is so I can try to be his friend. Now that I am not wanted, perhaps he will not try to arrest me again. He seemed so nice. He gets flustered easily at my touch, and I found it a bit amusing. He said I look like one of the women from his home, which is now long gone. Perhaps that is why I feel a connection with him. A connection, however, that has been strained almost too much. I told him my secrets, poured out that which I kept inside, only to be threatened with death should I not allow him to take me to the jail. No matter what he says, no matter what blood oath he has...my heart is heavy on this terrible meeting.

• Thoughts On Enemies

  Rodric: Who would have thought my owner and king would become my enemy? After he accused me of treason for helping my dear friend Corvin, things have never been the same. I almost turned myself over to him out of pure loyalty (and perhaps madness), but Corvin and Tyval would hear nothing of it. I am glad they stopped me. I know that King Rodric would kill me the moment he saw me. My only relief, as terrible as it sounds, is knowing that he most likely has not survived the attack on Helmstrass.
  
  Crispin: I shudder even thinking about the literal torture that Crispin has put me through. It makes my body ache, my eyes water and my stomach churn. I wonder, if I should ever marry, would I be able to let my husband call me 'my bride', like that terrible monster did? An entire week spent in his clutches. A week of hell unlike any I had ever suffered. A hell where I truly pleaded for death. Where death was welcome to me, if I could just get away from that horrid being. Sometimes I have nightmares. Nightmares where he is there. Looming in the shadows and watching me. Waiting for me to turn around so that horrible weapon can secure itself to my spine again and make me his toy once more. I still remember when Tyval saved me. I remember when I was too scared to leave the Veil, too scared to leave the library. Knowing that I could be snatched away again.
  Tyval says that Crispin is still out there. Sometimes I can swear I hear him whispering...'Come to me, my bride...'
  
  Haaken: Never was I a worse judge of character than I was with Haaken. A barbarian. I should have known. But he was kind to me. We enjoyed each other's company, and when I was imprisoned by Veratin he came and visited me. Brought me books and kept me company. It pains my heart to remember those awkward kisses we shared between the jail cell's bars. I gave myself to him as a slave, willingly. Thinking that if we had feelings for each other, it would not so much be a master-slave relationship. I was terribly wrong. The day after I gave myself to him completely, and told him my feelings...he tried to give me away to his sister simply because she suggested it! I refused...and things went bad. He called me property and said I had no say in the matter. It turns out he was just like all my other masters. He had a knife. I called for Tyval, and was rescued by him. Now I hide away in fear that Haaken will find me and take me back by force. The punishment I know he would give me makes it difficult to sleep. What I thought was love was nothing more than lust. I was nothing more to him than a way to pass the time. Never have I hated myself more.
  
  Cirius: This large beast is nothing more than that. A beast. After threatening Tyval, I stepped up and he did not seem to like it. The creature then challenged me to a battle! As if I would participate in such a thing. No one sees that Tyval is stronger than they all think. But I still hate when someone insults him and tries to hurt him. I will be wary of this creature. If he tries to harm Tyval again, one way or another I will find a way to fell the beast.
